Over the next several months, I had three more rounds of chemotherapy and had to endure Total Body Irradiation (TBI)  twice a day for 4 days to kill off any possible remaining leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma cells in order to prepare for my bone marrow transplant. I had to take 2 or 3 different types of chemo as well.  I received my transplant from an anonymous donor through the Be the Match registry on November 11, 2016 – a date we now consider my re-birthday. I had a really difficult time with side effects from the radiation and the chemo and I didnt feel very good for several weeks after. Before long, though, my white blood cell counts came back up (they call it engrafting) and I was able to go home for good.  I told the docs that I wanted to be home before my sister’s birthday because I didn’t want her spending her birthday at the hospital … and I got my wish!
